Male Supremacy Goes Haywire

Another adverse affect of the One-Child Policy is the deep set cultural male preference. Thousands of years ago, Chinese families needed to have a boy in order to carry on the family name, just like the marriage rules in the U.S. The difference was, China's need for carrying on that family name was exactly that: a need. If your family didn't have a boy to carry on the name, it was almost like a disgrace to the family. Even now in the 21st century, that need still holds true. I have heard horror stories about husbands who get their wives pregnant and threaten to leave the wife all together on her own if the baby isn't a boy. And if the baby is a girl, (and the husband doesn't leave the wife) and the couple have another baby by accident that happens to be a boy, it is not uncommon for that baby girl to be left out on the street at random so that the couple won't have to pay fines for having two babies. “These are problems that go down very deep—a complex, tenacious intertwining of economic, social, gender, and sexuality issues.” Says A historical perspective on gender issues in China. Just to prove that this "deep" need for boys in China is true, I Googled "chinese baby adoption." This is what I found: "Most babies available for adoption from China are girls. There are boys available but a very small number compared to girls." This is caused by the number of Chinese baby girls that go unwanted because of the brother that took their place. It's an ugly statement, but a true one.

Only-Children Take Over the World...Sort Of

Okay, so now that we have established that the children in China are fat and spoiled, let's learn a little about the effects. As most people know, China is (becoming) a force to be reckoned with. It makes so many products in factories that are then shipped out all over the world, especially to the U.S. We thrive on China's products and are somewhat indebted to them. I mean it's only somewhere around $894.8 billion, or something like that. No matter, we are now tied to China until we can pay back the debt. So all of their factories, products and owners of companies are also tied to us. Now here's where it gets tricky. All of those wealthy Chinese business owners that we have to deal with are those same children in which the name "Little Emperor" was dubbed. Is this a problem? Maybe. . .I guess we just have to hope that the next time Mr. Wang's business proposal doesn't go his way, he won't break out into a temper tantrum.
(Okay, that last sentence was mean, scratch that.)
But, in all seriousness, this is exactly what we have to hope does not happen. The "Little Emperors" are going to be running the world's major business. What could possibly go wrong?

The Fattest "Me Generation" Ever

Children all around our planet are falling under the influence of food. They continue to eat and eat until they are too full to move. And then they eat some more. "More and more countries around the world — even some that have been struggling to prevent starvation — are now wrestling with the dangers of excessive nutrition. The U.S. continues to lead the way, with as many as 37% of its children and adolescents carrying around too much fat. But other countries are rapidly catching up." This came form a Time magazine article that I found on global obesity. Some of this is not a shock to me. I already knew that the U.S. lead the world in obesity, but what I didn't know is that many countries that are struggling with poverty and lack of food sources are now beginning to become obese. Come on now let's feed the starving people before we decide to pig out and get fat. (That's completely hypocritical though, America does exactly that.)
But here's another thing I didn't know: " There are some 19 million people in China clinically determined to be obese." This is on the verge of astounding. I always thought that the U.S. was one of the Fattest countries in the world. Now don't get me wrong, it definitely is, but 19 million obese people in China? I didn't know there could be such a thing:
"Food insecurity marks a culture and at times in history China has seen the worst of it. In the 1930s, 5 million people starved to death. In the 1940s a million died, and between 1959 and 1961, 20 million people died from famine."
This quote above, I did know about. And maybe that's why I was so surprised to find out how many people in China are obese. China's had a rough past. Especially after Mao Zedong's rein. He was really the one who caused the overpopulation in China in the first place, and that's the main reason as to why the One Child Policy even exists.
So to me, the fact that China is becoming ever-so-fat is a real change from the famine they once lived. It's like their history is proof that they really are living in both ends of the spectrum.

I've Heard of Spoiled Rotten but Never Little Emperors

Issues are everywhere. There's no way to get around it. Issues in the government, issues in the schools, issues in the work place, issues at home. Issues are world-wide, and the sad fact of it all is: there is no way to fix them all and make everyone happy. So what do we all do? We sit around on blogspot are talk about them. Not do anything about it, but just talk about it. And that is exactly what I am doing. That's what the person sitting next to me right now is doing, too. Go figure.

But I don't really want to talk about the quiet people sitting next to me. I want to talk about this little thing called Little Emperor Syndrome. It's a new name for an old thing Grandma like to call "spoiled rotten" and loving every minute of it. Thirty years ago, China's government set up a new law called the "One Child Policy." It was designed to stop the extreme over-population in China. Make it illegal for a mama to have more than one kid and she might think twice the next time she and Daddy are alone. It's a serious thing, no matter how silly it might sound.

The real silly part is how all these only children in China are being spoiled. And this is what my Blog is all about. The adverse effects of the Chinese One Child Policy.

It's becoming quite an epidemic in China. All the these wealthy parents with only one child to provide for are spoiling them so much that The Doctors of the World actually needed to come up with a "syndrome" to describe just how unbelievably spoiled these children are.
