The Fattest "Me Generation" Ever

Children all around our planet are falling under the influence of food. They continue to eat and eat until they are too full to move. And then they eat some more. "More and more countries around the world — even some that have been struggling to prevent starvation — are now wrestling with the dangers of excessive nutrition. The U.S. continues to lead the way, with as many as 37% of its children and adolescents carrying around too much fat. But other countries are rapidly catching up." This came form a Time magazine article that I found on global obesity. Some of this is not a shock to me. I already knew that the U.S. lead the world in obesity, but what I didn't know is that many countries that are struggling with poverty and lack of food sources are now beginning to become obese. Come on now let's feed the starving people before we decide to pig out and get fat. (That's completely hypocritical though, America does exactly that.)
But here's another thing I didn't know: " There are some 19 million people in China clinically determined to be obese." This is on the verge of astounding. I always thought that the U.S. was one of the Fattest countries in the world. Now don't get me wrong, it definitely is, but 19 million obese people in China? I didn't know there could be such a thing:
"Food insecurity marks a culture and at times in history China has seen the worst of it. In the 1930s, 5 million people starved to death. In the 1940s a million died, and between 1959 and 1961, 20 million people died from famine."
This quote above, I did know about. And maybe that's why I was so surprised to find out how many people in China are obese. China's had a rough past. Especially after Mao Zedong's rein. He was really the one who caused the overpopulation in China in the first place, and that's the main reason as to why the One Child Policy even exists.
So to me, the fact that China is becoming ever-so-fat is a real change from the famine they once lived. It's like their history is proof that they really are living in both ends of the spectrum.
